Food on offer at the Rosehill College canteen

Our canteen

Our canteen is currently operated by the school to ensure students continue to have access to fresh and affordable food options throughout the day.

Our menu includes a variety of hot meals, sandwiches, snacks, and drinks, with options rotating regularly and seasonally to suit student preferences. We aim to provide nutritious and convenient food choices to support student wellbeing and energy levels during the school day.

If you have any inquiries for the canteen, you can email [email protected].

Restorative practice

Restorative practices are best understood as a 'community response' to wrong-doing. This involves bringing together all of the people involved in an incident to understand how people have been affected, with a focus on putting it right.

Why is Rosehill College using this approach?

Educators are recognising that restorative practices have many advantages over punishment alone:

  • Restorative practices have a focus on people, not rules.
  • Restorative practices give victims a voice about how they want their case to be handled.
  • Restorative practices make students who offend accountable to the people they have hurt.
  • Restorative practices address the root cause of an issue, not just the symptoms.

How do restorative practices fit with our values? Perfectly! Rosehill College is a community of students, parents and staff — so having a community or hui response to wrong-doing is ideal. Restorative practices place a priority on protecting relationships and rebuilding them if they become damaged through a harmful incident. Restorative practices are built upon core values such as Respect, Responsibility and Caring — which match our own values.

The Te Whare Kimiora team at Rosehill College — the school counsellors and registered nurses

Hauora — health & wellbeing

Te Whare Kimiora

Me mahi tahi tātou mō te oranga o te katoa — we work together for the wellbeing of everyone.

Te Whare Kimiora is our health and wellbeing hub, based in M4 next to the nurses' clinic. It brings together our counselling team, registered nurses and Kaimanaaki (Māori support), so every student has somewhere safe to turn — whether they need to talk something through, see a nurse, or find the right support beyond school.

Our counselling team

Our counsellors are full members of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC), receive regular supervision, and work alongside a wide range of agencies who can help with more complex needs.

Talking to a counsellor

What we can help with

Counselling is a safe, confidential space to talk things through. Students come to us about:

  • Anxiety, low mood and stress
  • Grief and loss
  • Friendships, peer pressure and family relationships
  • Gender and sexuality identity
  • Addiction and coping with change
  • Conflict, and any concerns about safety
How to get support

Students can get in touch in whatever way feels easiest:

  • Email [email protected]
  • Fill in an Appointment Request Form — on the bookshelf in the counselling building
  • Drop in to Te Whare Kimiora (M4) during break times

Staff who are worried about a student can refer through the student's Head of House, who will follow up with the team.

Confidentiality

Our counsellors follow the NZAC Code of Ethics. What you share stays confidential — except where there is a risk to your safety or someone else's, in which case information is shared carefully and appropriately to keep everyone safe.

Our registered nurse team

The Health Centre sits alongside Te Whare Kimiora in M4. Our registered nurses provide free, confidential health care to help students stay well, attend school and thrive.

Visiting the Health Centre

What our nurses do

Our nurses assess, treat and monitor a wide range of health needs, including:

  • Injuries, illness and medical concerns
  • Chronic conditions such as asthma and diabetes
  • A sexual health clinic — contraception, testing and treatment, and pregnancy testing and support
  • Sore-throat screening and treatment to help prevent rheumatic fever
  • Health promotion and prevention
  • Referrals to GPs, specialists and other health services
Year 9 health check

Every Year 9 student is offered a general health check — a friendly look at their physical and emotional wellbeing, lifestyle, and any concerns they may have, with follow-up support, education or referrals where needed.

Non-urgent visits

The nurses see booked appointments and follow-ups, and also run a drop-in clinic. To protect learning time, students with minor or non-urgent concerns are encouraged to come at break times, or before and after school. Students visiting during class time must bring a note, or have an email sent to the nurses.

Emergencies and urgent concerns

For an emergency or urgent health concern, act straight away — call 491, 492 or 891, or send someone to M4 to alert the nurses. You can also email [email protected].

Confidentiality and consent

Student health information is managed in line with legal and professional requirements, including the Health Information Privacy Code. Information is kept confidential and only shared with the student's consent, or where there is a legal or safety reason to do so. Where appropriate, we always encourage students to involve their parents or whānau.

Kaimanaaki — Māori support

Our Kaimanaaki (Whaea Pare Matthews) provides support to Māori students and their whānau. The role of our Kaimanaaki is to provide support that allows Māori students to succeed to their potential.

Peer Support Programme

Student Advisors
Dr Khaleghian runs our Peer Support Programme with the help of teaching staff and 100–200 Student Advisors — trustworthy, friendly seniors from each House who train for two days over the summer holidays.
Supporting our Year 9s
Once trained, Student Advisors welcome and support our Year 9 students on their very first day, right through Term One and beyond, helping them settle into life at Rosehill College.
Programmes and groups
There are always speciality support groups running for students. Drop in to Te Whare Kimiora to check what's on, or keep an eye on the Daily Notices.
