The art department has a long tradition of sound academic achievement. The modern, centrally-designed building provides excellent facilities with its four purpose-built art rooms, two computers suites as well as a printing bay and photographic studio.

The department is large and vibrant, and a strength is the expertise offered by specialist staff and the diversity of the courses that are offered. Junior programmes provide a solid grounding to students in both creative and technical skill. All five visual art disciplines are offered as senior subjects – painting, photography, design, printmaking and sculpture, as well as art history at Levels 1, 2 and 3. Each year a significant number of the department’s students go on to attain creative arts tertiary qualifications or an arts-related vocation.

Students’ work is celebrated with the four exhibitions, including both junior and senior work, that are held annually within the school calendar.
