CAREERS TALKS / MINI MEETS WEDNESDAY 7th AUGUST 

Talks are being held during Manaakitia Mai classes, period 5 and 6 (except for the NZ Defence Force who are holding session 1 during lunchtime and session 2 during period 5)

To attend a session, students must register their name on the relevant clipboard in the Careers Department. Sessions are open to year 12 & 13 students, except for the MIT Trades Academy session which is for year 11 students (will be year 12 next year) only.

Each session is limited to 30 students so come and sign up now!

BCITO work in partnership with employers and industry to help build a skilled construction workforce for New Zealand.  If you are interested in a career in the trades then this informative session will give you an insight into in to how apprenticeships work.

Centre for Pacific Languages, they are passionate about the heritage of Pacific Languages and want them to thrive in the places we live, work and play. This session will cover the courses available and the career opportunities for students in future embedding knowledge in language and culture.

Competenz, If you are interested in an Engineering trade then this session will give you valuable insight into how apprenticeships work, requirements from employers, how to get an apprenticeship, and how Competenz supports apprentices along with a brief discussion about the engineering trades they support. There will also be a Q&A segment .

NZ Defence Force, This session will cover what being part of the NZ Defence Force is all about, how to apply, what to expect during the application process, what sets the army, airforce and navy apart from each other. If you are interested in combat training, humanitarian work, supporting people and communities &  travelling the world then this talk is for you.

MIT Trades Academy, These sessions are for year 11 students who will be year 12 next year.

The team from MIT Trades Academy will inform you on all things MIT, what courses are on offer, how the trades academy works, what to expect and life in general on campus. Being part of the MIT Trades Academy means you attend MIT 1 day a week and school the other 4 days. You gain credits towards NCEA and get a unique view of what attending a tertiary sector institution is like before you finish school.

Job and Skills Hubs, This session covers construction and infrastructure career pathways, understanding apprenticeships, what construction employers are looking for and how to succeed in the industry. Also covered will be other related fields in the industry, ie: quantity surveyors, human resources, administration, project management, customer service or relationship management, logistics etc.

Stevenson, This session introduces Stevensons, who they are and what they do, career pathways and development opportunities. Also providing advice on educational requirements, what certifications, degree programmes or any upcoming internships, graduate programmes are on offer. Advice from an employer’s perspective what qualities and skills are looked for in an employee. Examples of the typical work environment in the field

Session 2 – 2:25pm

 

MITO, The automotive industry employs almost 60,000 New Zealanders in common job roles such as Automotive Technician (Mechanic), Collision Repair Technician and Refinisher (Panel beater), Vehicle Salesperson and more. Come along to this session to find out more about training programmes on offer.
