This once-in-a-lifetime journey involves a two week, ship-based expedition travelling to the incredible South Georgia Island on board the modern ship, ‘Magellan Explorer’.
You will see huge icebergs, cruise in inflatable zodiac boats, and visit vast king penguin rookeries, seal covered beaches, and important historic sites connected to the legacy of Sir Ernest Shackleton.
Sir Ernest Shackleton was a famous polar explorer. His last expedition travelled to South Georgia Island over 100 years ago.
On this expedition you will work with your team mates on outreach programmes covering a range of topics from climate change, to science, history, and education. On your return, with the full support of Antarctic Heritage Trust, you will share exciting stories from the expedition and inspire your community to go out and explore.
There is also an opportunity to work with our Inspiring Explorers Programme Partners MetService and Royal Society Te Apārangi on group science and research-based outreach projects.

You will join our largest expedition team to date and travel with 20 young Kiwis aged 18–30 from all backgrounds.

A dedicated Antarctic Heritage Trust team member will accompany you thoughout the journey to oversee your pastoral care.

This is your opportunity to step out of your comfort zone, grow your explorer mindset and join an incredible team of people!
